Admissions and How to Apply

We know that choosing the right school for your child is very important. If you are considering joining us at Newton Village Academy; we would encourage you to come and visit.

We accept names for our Nursery class from the child’s second birthday, but this does not guarantee a place.

Children can start Nursery in September, January or Easter, depending on their age and spaces within the nursery class. They start in the term that begins after they are 3 years old.

We have places for 20 pupils in the class and offer places to both Nursery and Reception pupils within the same class. Nursery children can attend for 15 or 30 hours.

Nursery admission forms can be collected from the office in the main school and returned to the school administrator.

Newton Village Academy is responsible for allocating nursery places and decisions are made in accordance with the School’s Admissions Policy, a copy of which is available on our policies page.  We cannot guarantee a place in Reception, even if your child attends Nursery.

For Reception places you will receive a County Application Leaflet (Starting School September Entry into the Reception Year Group).

To apply for a school place you must complete the online application form or the paper equivalent (SA1 ‘Admission to Infant / Primary School’).

This allows parents to state their preference of school for their child and should be completed by the deadline date in January.  Parents will be informed of the outcome in April.

See the policies page for our schools admission policy.

There will be an induction programme for new Nursery and Reception children. They will be invited into school  before starting, to meet the other children in their class and to meet the teacher. There will also be a home visit to give the opportunity to ask any questions.

If you are interested in a place, please contact the school on 01229 462718.

In Year Applications

In the first instance, we recommend parents contact our school by phone at 01229 462718, to check for available spaces in the year group required.

In line with the Schools Admissions Code 2014, Newton Village Academy, on receipt of an in-year application, will notify the LA of both the application, and its outcome, to allow the LA to keep up to date figures on the availability of places in the area.  Newton Village Academy will also inform parents of their legal right to appeal against applications that have been unsuccessful.

Newton Village Academy will participate in Cumbria County Council’s in-year Fair Access Protocol.
