At Newton Village Academy we believe the use of English in spoken and written form is the foundation of all learning, and that a secure basis in literacy skills will give the children the tools they need to communicate effectively and creatively in society. It is therefore essential that all children are given an early confidence and ability in the use of language to enable them to access the whole curriculum.
We encourage children to love English and become confident speakers, readers and writers. We provide high quality fun English experiences that give our children a deep understanding of all aspects of the English curriculum.
From Nursery to Year 1, our main scheme is Read, Write inc phonics which gives children a flying start when learning to read and write.
From Year 2 onwards, we use schemes such as Read, Write inc Spelling, Power of Reading and Oak Academy.
We want children to love books and become lifelong readers. Our Core books in each year group encourages this.
Reading Progress is a tool we use to help children read with greater fluency and expression.
We use fun games to encourage children to love spelling, grammar and punctuation.
